The etymologycal origin of MUSIC comes from the MUSES. They were a group of mythical Greek goddesses who inspired the artists. The muses had the mission of entertaining gods under the order of Apollo. The word comes from the Greek "mousikè".
THE DOORS
In 1971, Jim Morrison was found dead in his house’s bed in Paris. The band continued as a trio two more years, recording two more albums: "Other voices" and "Full circle".
BREAK ON THROUGH (TO THE OTHER SIDE)
This song was the first single and the first track of their first album, "The Doors". It’s a great song in which drug consumption hides behind the lyrics. Also, the lyrics talk about love, drugs, and his girlfriend. The tittle (and the chorus) say that when you “get high”, you go to the other side, a place lost in subconscious.
At the end of the song, Jim starts a count down(week to week, day to day, hour to hour). It was a metaphoric count down to the end of the Vietnam war.
From my point of view, this song is the hymn of a generation, of a decade between two wars ( second world war and Vietnam war), and one of the greatest songs of the 60’s.
Enjoy!
BREAK ON THROUGH (TO THE OTHER SIDE)
YOU KNOW THE DAY DESTROYS THE NIGHT
NIGHT DIVIDES THE DAY
TRIED TO RUN TRIED TO HIDE
BREAK ON THROUGH TO THE OTHER SIDE
WE CHASED OUR PLEASURES HERE
DUG OUR TREASURES THERE
BUT CAN YOU STILL RECALL
THE TIME WE CRIED?
BREAK ON THROUGH TO THE OTHER SIDE
EVERYBODY LOVES MY BABY
SHE GET SHE GET
SHE GET HIGH
I FOUND AN ISLAND IN YOUR ARMS
COUNTRY IN YOUR EYES
ARMS THAT CHAIN US
EYES THAT LIE
BREAK ON THROUGH TO THE OTHER SIDE
MADE THE SCENE
WEEK TO WEEK
DAY TO DAY
HOUR TO HOUR
THE GATE IS STRAIGHT
DEEP AND WIDE
BREAK ON THROUGH TO THE OTHER SIDE
BREAK ON THROUGH
YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH
